Makeapp
Effective date: 11 October 2026
This policy explains what Makeapp ("the app") does with information when you use it. Makeapp is published by Magic Unicorn Inc. ("we", "us"). Contact: support@magicunicorninc.com.
This policy describes Makeapp 7.0 and later. Versions before 7.0 worked differently: they sent the photo you edited to our server and to AI providers. They are described in the section Versions before 7.0.
Photos and faces. When you open a photo, the app edits it entirely on your iPhone. It finds where the face is using Apple's face detection on the device (the Vision framework) and applies the retouching and makeup you choose with your phone's own processor. The photo, the positions of facial features that your phone detects in it (such as the outline of the eyes, brows, nose and lips) and the results are never sent to us, to any AI provider or to anyone else, and are used only to show, save and share the edit you asked for. Editing works without an internet connection. We do not use your photos to identify anyone, we do not create or keep face templates or other biometric identifiers, and we do not use your photos to train AI models. The before-and-after examples shown on the welcome and subscription screens are pictures included in the app.
Photo library and camera. The app asks for access to your photo library to show your photos and to save results, and to your camera if you take a selfie. Photos with a face are found on the device, and nothing from your library is uploaded. When you save or share a result, it goes where you choose, such as your photo library or another app you pick; we do not receive it.
Your edit history. Your before and after pictures, the edits you chose and your strength settings are stored only on your device. You can delete them in the app, and deleting the app deletes them.
Installation ID. The app creates a random identifier for your installation and keeps it in your device's keychain, so it stays the same if you reinstall the app on the same device. It is not linked to your name or to your Apple Account. In Makeapp 7.0 and later it stays on your phone: the app uses it only to derive the analytics identifier described below, and the installation ID itself is never sent to our analytics services.
Purchases. Subscriptions are sold by Apple, and we never receive your payment details. Makeapp 7.0 and later check on your device, with Apple's StoreKit, whether you have an active subscription or an earlier purchase that includes Pro (such as an edit pack); the app does not ask our server. Your purchase and subscription transactions are also reported to RevenueCat (see below) so that we can count subscriptions and revenue.
Analytics services. Two companies process analytics for us. Amplitude (usage analytics) is optional; RevenueCat (purchase analytics) is part of the essential service:
The analytics identifier is a one-way code made from your installation ID; it cannot be turned back into the installation ID, and neither company ever receives the installation ID itself, your photos or any advertising identifier. Both process this data only on our behalf. They are not used for advertising or to track you across other companies' apps or websites.
Feedback and support. If you send feedback with the "Help us improve Makeapp" form, we receive your star rating, the reasons you picked and your comment, together with basic context such as the app version and language. If you email us, we receive your message and the address you send it from. We read every message. Feedback is never published.
Notifications. Makeapp 7.0 and later do not send notifications and do not collect a push token.
Website logs. Like most internet services, the web server that hosts this website records technical log data such as IP address, time and the address requested. We use it for security and troubleshooting. The app does not send that server any photo.
We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not build profiles of you for anyone else.
Your photos, the faces in them and your edit results are not shared with anyone, because they never leave your phone. We may also disclose information if the law requires it. We do not sell or rent personal information, we do not share it for advertising, and we do not use advertising identifiers or track you across other companies' apps or websites.
Our providers may process data in other countries, including the United States.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete the information we hold about you, or to object to or restrict its use. To make a request, email support@magicunicorninc.com and include the support code shown in the app's Settings, if there is one. We will respond within 30 days. We ask Amplitude and RevenueCat to delete the data linked to your installation's analytics identifier.
Versions of the app before 7.0 edited photos on our server instead of on your phone. Our server still serves them, so this section applies if you use or have used one. What the sections above say about analytics, purchases and your choices applies to those versions too, except where this section says otherwise.
Photos you chose to edit. When you apply an edit, the app uploads that photo to our server. Our server sends it, with the instructions for the edit you chose, to OpenAI (OpenAI, L.L.C.), whose image model makes the edit. If OpenAI is unavailable, our server uses our other AI processing provider, Kie.ai, instead, which runs image models from OpenAI and ByteDance (versions of the app before 6.1 use Kie.ai for every edit). We keep the uploaded photo on our server only while your edit is being made (usually under a minute, at most a few minutes), to line the result up exactly with your photo, and delete it as soon as the edit is finished; we delete the edited result from our server within 24 hours. OpenAI may keep what our server sends it and the edited image it returns for up to 30 days to monitor for abuse and misuse, and handles them under its own privacy policy and API data usage policy. Kie.ai keeps files only temporarily to do the processing and handles them under its own privacy policy. We use your photos only to create the edit you asked for. To check that the result lines up, our server finds where the face is in the photo; this is never used to recognise anyone and nothing about the face is kept. The positions of facial features that your phone detects in the photo (such as the outline of the eyes, brows, nose and lips) are sent with it and used only to make that edit, to keep your skin's texture where the edit should not change it; they are not stored and are never used to identify anyone. We do not use your photos to identify anyone, we do not create or keep face templates or other biometric identifiers, and we do not use your photos to train AI models.
Before the first photo leaves your device, those versions ask for your consent and tell you which third-party AI services receive the photo. If you do not agree, no photo is uploaded.
Versions before 6.1. Versions of the app before 6.1 include free edits, use Kie.ai for every edit, and send the usage analytics described above to Amplitude without offering the privacy choice.
Installation ID and purchase records. Our server uses the installation ID to apply your subscription allowance and edit packs and to match your requests to your results. In Settings those versions show a short support code derived from it, which is all we need when you contact us. To confirm what you bought and count your edits, they send our server the purchase information Apple provides (product, purchase and expiry dates, and Apple's transaction identifiers). We keep a record of which pack purchases have been added to your edits, so each purchase counts once and, on iOS 18 and later, your packs can follow your Apple Account to a new iPhone.
Edit records. For each edit our server stores the time, the edit you chose (for example "Fresh + Clean girl"), whether it worked, how long it took and which AI model made it, together with your installation ID, plan and app version. This is how credits, limits and refunds of failed edits work.
Usage events. Those versions send our own server a short list of app events, such as "paywall shown", "edit started" or "result saved", with your installation ID, app version and plan. They contain no photos and no advertising identifiers. These are essential service records: they always go to our server, whatever you choose on the privacy screen. We use them to run the service, understand how the app is used and improve it.
Feedback. If you fill in the "Help us improve Makeapp" form, our server stores your star rating, the reasons you picked, your comment, where the form was shown, and basic context: app version, plan, language and region settings, App Store country, and how long the app has been installed.
Push token. If you turn on notifications, the app gives our server your device's push token so we can tell you when an edit is ready. We use it only for those notifications, which Apple's push service delivers.
Protection of free edits (versions before 6.1). To limit how many free edits can be made from one network in a day, our server keeps a one-way, salted fingerprint of your IP address for the current day only. We do not store the IP address itself, and the fingerprint is deleted once the day is over.
Who receives information in versions before 7.0. In addition to Apple, Amplitude and RevenueCat as described above:
Apart from our web server's security logs and the daily free-edit fingerprint (versions before 6.1), we do not store IP addresses.
Retention (versions before 7.0).
Our server for those versions is located in the European Union. If you ask us to delete the records of your installation, any edit packs (and, before 6.1, free edits) left on it are deleted too.
Only edit photos of yourself, or of other adults who have agreed to it.
Makeapp is meant for adults and is not directed to anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has used the app, contact us and we will delete the information.
If we change this policy we will update this page and the date at the top. Significant changes will also be noted in the app or its App Store description.
